Former Manchester United player Eric Cantona has been named as the culprit in the French Rugby League brawl that resulted in referee Benjamin Casty being taken to hospital.
The shocking footage of the attack, which would make football Cantona look like a saint, showed rugby Cantona dressed in his captain America kit punching the referee, knocking him out cold and following it up with an attack on the opposite teams players.
There has been a huge outcry following the incident, with pundits and sporting professionals calling for Cantona to be banned for life. The outrageous incident is nothing unusual for Cantona, once having jumped over advertising hoardings to kung fu a spectator in the chops following his sending off.
Upon being approached by reporters after his name started appearing Cantona neither confirmed or denied the allegations, instead preferring to go off on a rant about seagulls.
The publicity surrounding the incident is a sure sign that his short lived and secret rugby career is over. A career in UFC might await, if president of the association Dana White could manage to put together a mouthwatering event with a certain Irish hardman - Roy Keane. Despite being French, Cantona insists he wouldn't throw in the towel on such an event.
Whatever happens next, we are sure it's only a matter of time before Cantona is making headlines for all the wrong reasons.
